Class Offerings
Beginner
Beginners embark on their Irish dance journey by learning the fundamentals and basic techniques in a fun and energetic environment. At the Beginner level, dancers will build confidence, memory and motor skills. They will also work on coordination, balance, flexibility, and of course, make new friends.
Wearing soft shoes, students will learn the traditional Irish Jig and Reel. It’s amazing to see the growth Beginners experience over the course of the first year!
Advanced Beginner
Advanced Beginner classes are offered to students who have mastered the Light Jig, Reel and Slip Jig. Dancers will be taught new dances in hard shoes as they begin learning the traditional Treble Jig and Hornpipe. Dancers will be expected to to enroll in classes 1-2 days per week.
Novice
Once students are proficient in the five basic soft and hard shoe dances - Light Jig, Reel, Slip Jig, Treble Jig and Hornpipe - they will be introduced to more advanced steps including the slow Treble Jig, slow Hornpipe, and more advanced soft shoe steps and dances. Dancers will be expected to participate in classes at least 2 days per week.
Prizewinner/PC/OC
At the Prizewinner and Championship levels, Healy Academy classes are geared toward students who have studied and practiced Irish Dance for multiple years. Dancers will be expected to participate in classes 3+ days per week to develop and hone the skills necessary to assist in qualifying for major competitions including the Oireachtas and North American Irish Dance Championships/Nationals.
